Ronin Slots
This is a game about samurai, for samurai, that the rest of us peasants should count ourselves lucky to have the privilege of playing. Taking on the cultural theme in a specific time period to new heights, this game handles things respectably where other slots tend to cheap out and be cliché. Add on top of that a random jackpot, and you have a recipe for a winner.
We had a blast with every single spend of this game, and only found ourselves all the richer the longer we played it. The only negative thing we have to say about this game is the fact that they used suits of cards instead of well drawn kanji characters. It would have been the best thing ever if they used actual Japanese writing in a game about Japan, but then again, we are probably the only ones that would appreciate that. It still was not enough to stop us from loving the game, so we said you should skip this review and go give it a spin right now!
What is This Slot About?
A ronin is a samurai that has lost his master. That, and winning lots of money, is what this game is all about. Set in an authentic period of Japanese history, this is a game they did their best to be about really cool samurais that don't look quite like the ones you will see elsewhere, and are accompanied by lots of money that you will win at every spin, alongside horses, because those are cool too.
How Does the Game Actually Play?
Historically themed games can be forgiven for keeping things simple and dated when it comes to game play. This is the case with this game, which does nothing new, and is very classical in that sense. Not that Japanese people had slot machines back then, though that we would be hilarious if they did.
The main draw here, like other games that feature it, is the progressive jackpot. It gets quite large the longer you player, and will be the main driving factor when it comes to keeping you glued to your screen. The respin bonus game is also a nice touch, but it pales in comparison to just how high that aforementioned jackpot can really get.
You will find the number of pay lines here, as well as the number of reel's, to be exactly what you would expect on other slots, being 20 and five, respectively. The betting amounts are exactly in line with what you would expect from real time gaming as well, ranging from a single cent, all the way up to a grand total of five whole dollars.
The most you can bet, if you're feeling like taking a big risk, is $100. Admittedly that's not all that high compared to some of these other games, but it's still pretty good, and we are willing to except it.
How's it Look?
Most of this game looks like it was very well done. Whether it is the decorative Japanese masks, the carefully draw horses, or the giant buildings that the kings used to live in, everything here is really well made. The title character being the ronin in particular deserves special mention, which looks like a more authentic take on Japanese samurai than you are used to seeing. There are no anime characters here, or giant spiky hair, or swords as large as a building. What there is, however, is a more realistic take on a theme that we have all come to enjoy.
What We Enjoyed
+ Samurai are great + Take on the theme that's not common + Progressive jackpots for the win
We We Didn't Much Care For
- Suits of cards aren't appropriate
Who is the Ideal Audience of this Particular Slot?
If you were the kind of kid that dressed up like a samurai for Halloween, and loves Asian history, then you are certainly a one of a kind individual. This game was made for you, as well as for anyone else that loves well done slots that pay quite well on top of that. It is certainly not for history buffs that would like a completely accurate rendition of the historical time period, but it comes reasonably close, and it is not disrespectful, so we will give it a pass, and so should you.
Summing it All Up - Should You Play This Fine Game?
Summing it up, Ronin Slots is a very low-key game with moderate production values that did very well to take a time honored theme and give it a new life. It is certainly not the best looking slot on the market, but they did spend a lot of time to get the details on this one down pat. Whether you are in it for the same, the money, or a combination of the two, you will likely appreciate but this game has the offer, if only you are willing to give it a chance. it would only take a minute for you to try this game, and you already spent all the time reading this review, so you may as well act like a ronin in yourself, heading on over to play it, as we are no longer your master as of this moment in time!
